B.R. 1948-95 Loco & Coaching Stock Emblems
Authentic representations of B.R. Loco Emblems from 1948 until the 1990s - from the superb 'LION ON WHEEL' which was introduced in the early years of public ownership and lasted until the late 1950s, through to the mundane 'DOUBLE ARROW' which lasted about thirty years until the start of Railway Privatisation.NOTE: G402 has 4 Pairs of Crests facing Left on both sides, and 2 Pairs facing Left & Right. This was because these emblems, unlike the earlier 'Lion on Wheel', were Heraldic Devices, and could not be 'handed'. When this was brought to B.R.'s attention in early 1957, they had to fit the 'Left Handed' Crest to both sides of all repaints, but a considerable number of Locos ran until the end of steam with the 'Wrong' facing Crests !
