Comparison between the Cabside Number Decals Types

Although MODELMASTER are well known for manufacturing professional quality Waterslide Decals, our associate company WOLF TRANSFERS have introduced a specialist range of Dryprint Rub Down Transfers for B.R. Steam Loco Cabside Numbers.
The main characteristics are as follows:

Waterslide Decals

MODELMASTER Waterslide Decals are Silk Screen printed to the highest professional standards, always using the correct fonts and authentic details. This attention to detail and rigid quality control ensures that, along with their crystal clear peelable varnish top coat, they are light years ahead of some other offerings in the model marketplace today.

The great advantage of Waterslide Decals is their flexibility of application. Once placed on the model, they can be adjusted and tweaked into final position without any difficulty. he biggest disadvantage of Waterslide Decals is that they are better applied to glossy surfaces, and also many have a thick varnish surround which can be difficult to disguise.

However, with MODELMASTER's peelable varnish top coat, you only have to let the decal dry for 24 - 48 hours, and carefully peel away the varnish coat with either a craft knife or well used masking tape. Even if you don't remove the varnish top coat, it is extremly thin, and will never discolour (well, certainly not in the fifteen years since we devised it!)

Rubdown Transfers

The advantage of the WOLF TRANSFERS range of B.R. Cabside Numbers is that they can be instantly applied to any type of surface, and they are used extensively by professional loco rebranders (including ourselves of course, as NO varnishing of the proprietary Bachmann or Hornby locos is necessary, either before or after application).

However, they are not adjustable, so have to be applied accurately. Therefore, to minimise error, all WOLF TRANSFERS ready made number sets are supplied with a spare set of cabside numbers, so you have an extra chance to repair any errors or misalignments of application. If you don't use the spare number set, you'll quickly build up a stock of extra numbers which can be used on other models

Used properly, both WATERSLIDE and RUBDOWN transfers will give you a factory-like finish, and a model to be proud of. The choice is yours.
